Due to Lassus Brothers’ desire to expand its retail area, the Dairy Queen on Ind. 15 in Warsaw will close its doors Friday.
According to owners Jane and Jerry Nolin, the closure coincides with the expiration of Dairy Queen’s lease.
The “limited brazier” location, with a focus on ice cream and cakes, had been at its location inside the Lassus Brothers gas station since January 1999.
In the summer months, according to Jane Nolin, the store employed up to 14 people.
Jane said the business was surviving like many in this economy.
There are plans to open another location, though Jane said they couldn’t make any preferred location public.
The location still needs to be reviewed by Dairy Queen’s corporate office and studies and traffic counts still need to be done.
Jane said the biggest obstacle is finding a location where they can install a drive-thru.
The closure of the Ind. 15 location doesn’t affect the Dairy Queen Grill and Chill, 2304 Winona Avenue, Winona Lake, which remains open and carries the same ice cream and cake line the Ind. 15 location did.
