Cyclist Struck By Vehicle, Suffers Minor Injuries

Posted
A woman was struck by a vehicle as she rode her bicycle late afternoon Monday, leaving her with road rash.
Warsaw police and medics were called just after 5 p.m. to the intersection of Anchorage Road and Sunset Drive on a report of a bicyclist hit by a car. Crews arrived to find Lynette S. Merkler, 2213 Bluewater Drive, Warsaw, with abrasions to her knee, lower leg and foot after being struck by a 2007 Mazda 6i driven by 19-year-old Kody R. Wahlig, 1802 Fox Farm Road, Warsaw.
According to a police incident report, Merkler said she was biking along Anchorage when she moved to turn onto Sunset. She told officers she gave motorists a hand signal to indicate her intentions to turn, when she was struck by a vehicle.
Wahlig told police he saw a male bicyclist turn, then proceeded to make his own turn onto Sunset from Anchorage. Wahlig said he saw no other cyclists when he made his turn.
Merkler suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene by medics.
