Crossroads League Announces Athletes Of The Week For Sept. 23-29AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of Sept. 23 through 29. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball

Attacker of the Week

Skyler Van Note, Marian

Van Note picked up 56 kills at a clip of 4.7 kills per set and a .286 percentage to lead No. 22 Marian to a trio of league victories. Van Note logged a double-double in all three and posted a career-high 24 kills to go with 19 digs and two blocks against Grace.

Defender of the Week

Ellie Ruby

Mount Vernon Nazarene

Ellie anchored Mount Vernon Nazarene in three league victories, averaging 5.3 digs and reaching the 25-dig mark twice. The sophomore ended the week with 69 total digs and two service aces for the Cougars.

Setter of the Week

Alex Falcone

Indiana Wesleyan

Falcone earned her fourth honor in five weeks for No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan, climbing to No. 2 in the NAIA in assists with 126 more over three IWU wins. The senior averaged 12.6 assists and 2.7 digs per set for the undefeated Wildcats.

Cole Russell, Spring Arbor

Russell stayed red hot for No. 12 Spring Arbor, netting one goal in SAU’s 2-0 win over Taylor, before posting a hat trick in a 5-0 rout of USF to close the week with eight points on four goals in two matches.

Spring Arbor

Banfi logged his fifth and sixth clean sheets of the season in goal for No. 12 SAU, grabbing one save in shutout victories over Taylor and Saint Francis.

Morgan Orme, Taylor

Orme struck for two goals and two assists for RV Taylor, assisting the equalizer in a 2-2 draw with No. 13 Spring Arbor, before scoring twice and assisting another in a 7-0 win over Bethel.

Defensive Player

Megan Williams, Taylor

Williams stopped a career-high nine shots to preserve a 2-2 tie for RV Taylor against No. 13 Spring Arbor, before working half of TU’s 7-0 shutout of Bethel.

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Hannah Stoffel, Huntington

Stoffel raced to her third honor of the fall by taking third overall at the Loyola Invite. The junior crossed in 17:38 to top all NAIA performers at the event.

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Haile Stutzman, Huntington

Stutzman battled a muddy course at the Loyola Invite to post a time of 25:43 and finished 23rd-of-127 overall.

Player of the Week

Maria Lueken, Marian

Lueken scored a win at No. 1 singles and went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles for Marian, helping the Knights to victories over Grace and Bethel.

Deiters concluded his fall regular season with a 4-0 mark in Marian’s victories over Grace and Bethel.
