Cromwell Brothers Charged with Battery, Resisting Arrest

Posted
Two Cromwell brothers were arrested yesterday afternoon after they reportedly attempted to resist law enforcement in a September incident.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officer attempted to serve an active warrant for the arrest of Gary Helman, 55, of 9174 E. Doswell Blvd., Cromwell, on Sept. 27.
The officer reportedly arrived at the residence and saw the man’s brother standing near a shed in a wooded area on the property. The officer spoke with Helman’s brother, Michael Helman, 58, same address, and told Michael he was attempting to serve an active warrant for his brother’s arrest.
At that time, Gary Helman emerged from the trees and began yelling at the officer.
The officer informed Gary Helman he was placing him under arrest and the man reportedly began running toward his residence. The officer detained the man, who resisted and grabbed the officer’s arm and twisted it. The officer freed himself and activated his stun gun on Gary Helman.
He reportedly freed himself from the stun gun and he and his brother proceeded into their residence.
Both men were arrested Monday afternoon on charges stemming from the incident. Michael Helman was charged with resisting law enforcement and Gary Helman was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a law enforcement official and invasion of privacy. They were held on individual $25,000 bonds.
