Staff Report-
Every day thousands of prescriptions go unfilled simply because they are too expensive.
However, because of United Way of Kosciusko County and free FamilyWize prescription discount cards, more people are able to have their prescriptions filled.
Patricia Coy, executive director of United Way of Kosciusko County, said, “These discount cards are helping to cut prescription costs, allowing people to take care of their health needs and still provide for their families.”
In 2011, the United Way/FamilyWize partnership saved residents of Kosciusko County $79,681 by cutting the cost of medicines by an average of 30 percent. Since 2005, Kosciusko County residents saved, on average, $20 per prescription for a grand savings of $179,486.
FamilyWize Prescription Discount Cards are primarily for people who do not currently have prescription drug coverage. However, they can also be used when people have to buy medicine not covered by their health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare or VA benefits. The cards have no age or usage limits, registration forms or income requirements and can be used immediately.
Cardholders simply present the FamilyWize card, which can be printed from the United Way website, to almost any pharmacy at the time of purchase to receive their discount.
The discount prescription cards are free. Call 2-1-1 to have a card mailed to you or visit www.unitedwaykosciusko.org to download your free card.
