Kosciusko County Treasurer's Office will send a voluntary property tax payment option to county property owners later this month.
County Auditor Marsha McSherry told the county council Thursday that the optional bills are aimed at helping provide revenue for municipalities funded through property taxes. McSherry said the county hopes to send them out the week of May 21.
According to a letter from County Treasurer Kent Adams, which will be mailed to property owners with the optional bills, Kosciusko County does not have all the information necessary to finalize the 2007-pay-2008 tax bill statements.
The bills will reflect 80 percent of the amount property owners paid on their 2007 spring installment last year. According to Adams' letter, when certification of tax rates from the state is received, a reconciling tax statement will be mailed and a due date set. For the voluntary bills, there is no due date and there is no penalty for not paying. Tax bill statements mailed after the rates are certified will credit any voluntary payments made.
McSherry said the county does not yet have a timeline for the official property tax bills.
