County Seeks To Join With Towns To Buy Road Salt

Posted

In June, the Kosciusko County Highway Department begins looking at purchasing road salt for the upcoming winter.

Tuesday, highway department superintendent and engineer Rob Ladson told Kosciusko County Commissioners he wants to work with Warsaw and towns in the county to look at buying the salt in bulk and "getting a better price."

He said the towns and county will have to work out details, such as who will have to pay what for how much.

"It would be crazy not to (do it)," said Avis Gunter, southern district commissioner.

The commissioners unanimously approved working with Warsaw and the towns in the county to buy salt in bulk at a discounted price.

The commissioners also approved Ladson's recommendation that the speed limit on CR 250E be reduced to 35 mph. The town of Winona Lake already reduced its portion of the road to 35 mph, while the county's portion is at 45 mph.

Also approved was changing the intersection of CRs 700W and 1150S to a four-way stop instead of a three-way stop.

County commissioners unanimously approved an agreement between Kosciusko County Highway Department and the town of Syracuse that, in exchange for the county striping some of Syracuse's roads, Syracuse will sweep some of the county's roads.

County commissioners are northern district, Brad Jackson; middle district, Ron Truex; and southern district, Avis Gunter. They meet at 9 a.m. every other Tuesday in the county courthouse.
