Information for Kosciusko County real estate and personal property owners regarding the 2005 payment of taxes was released Monday.
According to the press releases from county treasurer Kent Adams and county auditor Sue Ann Mitchell, tax rates were received from the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance, Indianapolis. Calculation of tax rates are completed by the auditor's office.
An abstract showing the total expected taxes to be collected must be submitted and approved by the state auditor's office, and then tax bill statements can be printed.
Individual public tax bill information can be found on the Kosciusko County Web site at www.kcgov.com
Adams said - barring any unforeseen delays - his office will print and mail more than 90,000 tax bill statements to property owners by April 25, with a due date of May 10 for the tax year 2004 pay 2005.
Mitchell also reminded property owners that anyone eligible for a property tax exemption for taxing year 2005 pay 2006 must file in the auditor's office by May 10.
Mitchell and Adams said this year will be the first time in two years the mailing and payment of taxes will revert back to the normal spring and fall payment deadlines of May 10 and Nov. 10, after reassessment and converting to a court-ordered market value property system in Indiana.
Adams also announced six banks in the county once again will accept 2005 taxes up to the close of business May 10 for anyone owning property in the county. The banks provide this service at no cost to taxpayers or the county.
"It certainly is a convenience for those who choose to use this service and to the county in the collection of these funds so important in serving and meeting the needs of our residents. We greatly appreciate the cooperative effort of these bank institutions," said Adams.
Payments may be made by cash or check. If they are made by check, the checks should be made payable to Kosciusko County Treasurer. For the banks to receive payment, the payment must be accompanied by a copy of the tax statement previously mailed to the property owner. Also, banks can accept only the current tax amount as indicated on the tax statement. Any questions must be cleared at the county treasurer's office.
Adams said payments must be received and stamped or postmarked on or before May 10 to avoid any penalty.
The participating banks are Campbell & Fetter Bank, Farmers State Bank, First Federal Savings Bank, Lake City Bank, Mutual Federal Savings Bank and National City Bank.
