County Planning First Tax Sale Since 2006

Posted
The Kosciusko County Auditor's Office began advertising a tax sale Feb. 4.

It is the first such sale the county has had since 2006.

At tax sales, the county auctions off property that property owners have not paid taxes on. Feb. 4, the county listed almost 600 unpaid delinquencies, with amounts ranging from about $100 to more than $21,000. The county also sends mailed notifications to property owners who have not yet paid their taxes before the sale.

Tax delinquencies are also listed on the county's Web site, www.kcgov.com

County Auditor Marsha McSherry said the county has not held a tax sale since 2006 because, in recent years, the trending and reassessment process has pushed the tax billing date past the deadline for scheduling a tax sale. Typically, McSherry said, the county has a tax sale every year.

The sale will be held March 18 and property owners have until the date of the sale to pay their delinquent taxes.
