County department heads seeking additional appropriations and transfers Thursday from the Kosciusko County council found it smooth sailing as all requests were approved.
County Surveyor Dick Kemper, Sheriff Al Rovenstine and Prosecutor David Kolbe were approved for additional appropriations.
Kolbe needed an appropriation for $2,650 to cover the cost of two accident reconstructions. He wanted to increase the amount but was unable to because he would need to readvertise beforehand.
Recorder Alice Anglin requested a transfer of funds so a new employee can begin training soon. The funds transferred were $800 and $1,442 and required an amendment on the department's salary ordinance.
Bob Weaver, Health Department, was approved for a $2,500 transfer of funds from the health specialist account to the computer hardware account. The department had a breakdown in their computer.
Tippecanoe Township Assessor Judy Prado was given approval by the county council for a transfer of $200 to office supplies account and money to the office furniture account. Prado said the department needed to purchase some chairs.
Other people receiving approval for transfers included Turkey Creek Township Assessor Susan Myrick, Joan Younce from the Extension Office, Highway Department Engineer Robert Ladson, and Sue Ann Mitchell, Ron Robinson, Al Rovenstine and Don Taylor.
Gail Buhr, local coordinating council coordinator for the Northeast Regional Office of Drug-Free Indiana, sought and received appropriations for 1999.
Drug-Free Indiana is not tax-supported. The money comes from user fees related to alcohol and tobacco use or related offenses. Approximately 75 percent of the user fees stay in the county and 25 percent is forwarded to the Governor's commission.
The 1999 funding proposal uses an estimate of $74,000 as available funding. The estimate stems from the ending balance from 1998.
The proposed funding for 1999 programs are separated into four areas. The four areas include prevention and education, intervention and treatment, law enforcement and judicial, and multiple service areas.
Buhr said, "We allocate the funding through a grant process."
After official business was completed, Councilman Jim Tranter said, "All of those (of us) who did get elected thank the voters of the county."
