County, Local Towns To Receive Major Moves Money

Posted
State Auditor Tim Berry announced Tuesday the distribution of $75 million in Major Moves proceeds to local communities in all 92 Indiana counties.

According to the announcement, Kosciusko County will receive $825,960.71, and 13 towns in the county will receive smaller amounts.

The money is intended to fund new local road construction projects.

Kosciusko County Highway Superintendent Dennis Pletcher said today he had not received notice that his department had received the money. Pletcher said his department will probably not use the money until next year."It's too late in the year for it to be used for this construction season," Pletcher said. "It will be used when the construction season starts next summer."

Pletcher said the county received another Major Moves distribution last October. That money, he said, mostly went toward propping up the highway department budget which had been cut by the state. This year's highway budget, Pletcher said, is about $1 million short.

The local transportation funding was part of the money earned in the $3.8 billion lease of the Indiana Toll Road. The local Major Moves distributions are allocated using the Motor Vehicle Highway formula and are given in addition to each unit's regular transportation allotment. Counties and cities can use the funds for road and bridge construction, reconstruction, maintenance and for other uses outlined in Indiana Code.

The allocations to towns within Kosciusko County are as follows:

Burket: $1,324.23

Claypool: $2,111.97

Etna Green: $4,502.37

Leesburg: $4,244.31

Mentone: $6,098.23

Milford: $10,525.89

North Webster: $7,245.89

Pierceton: $4,733.26

Sidney: $1,140.87

Silver Lake: $3,707.83

Syracuse: $20,630.75

Warsaw: $84,309.02

Winona Lake: $27,075.32
