County gives state 2 radio frequencies

Posted

In 1992, Kosciusko County applied for and received a license from the federal government for two 800-megahertz radio frequencies.

The county never put them to use but still holds the licenses.

Tuesday, Kosciusko County Administrator Ron Robinson told the commissioners Indiana wants to use those two frequencies for the backbone of the Hoosier SAFE-T (Safety Acting For Everyone Together) program that will allow emergency services to better communicate with one another during emergencies, terrorist attacks or other crisises.

In turn, Robinson said, the state will help Kosciusko County set up its dispatch to make mobile data available for the county emergency services.

Project Hoosier SAFE-T was launched in 1997.

The commissioners unanimously approved.
