County Fair To 'Build Bridges' For Youth

"Building Bridges for our Youth" is the theme for this year's 84th Kosciusko County Fair.

Bridge building starts Saturday with the pre-fair activities, including check-in for open class exhibits and 4-H livestock contests. The 4-H Fashion and Consumer Clothing Revue is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Activities Tent at the fairgrounds.

The Midway opens Sunday, with all rides priced at $1 each, and the fair officially opens at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with an opening ceremony at the grandstand.

Sunday is a free day at the fair, with free admission all day.

The 4-H goat royalty, goat fun and dog trick/costume/agility shows also are scheduled for Sunday, and the highlight of Sunday's entertainment will be the demolition derby in the grandstand at 3 p.m. Paid admission will be required for the demolition derby.

Gate admissions start Monday: daily passes for adults are $3, for kids age 10 to 15 are $1 and under age 10 are free. Season passes are $15 for adults, $5 for kids 10 to 15 and free for kids under 10. Season passes for 4-H parents are $7.

Monday is "Extension Homemaker Day," and includes the 4-H beef, rabbit and goat shows.

At 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Activity Tent the Junior Miss and Mr. Kosciusko County Fair, for 8- to 11-year-olds is scheduled. The Miss Teenage Kosciusko County Fair follows at 8 p.m.

Monday also is wristband day from 1 to 10 p.m. for the Midway, with wristbands costing $10 per person.

Tuesday is "4-H Leaders Appreciation Day," and 4-H leaders may register for prizes and free give-aways.

At the 4-H end of the fairgrounds the swine; pigeon, poultry and waterfowl; and llama shows are scheduled for Tuesday, as are the dairy judging contest and the dairy showmanship contest.

The 4-H exhibit at the Shrine Building opens at noon Tuesday, as does the 4-H and open class exhibits at the home and family arts building.

Tuesday at 7 p.m. the Fox Brothers will entertain at a free concert in the grandstand. At 6 p.m. is the Cutie King and Queen Contest in the Activity Tent, and at 8 p.m. is the Junior Talent Contest, for kids 12 years old and younger, also in the Activity Tent.

Wristbands for Tuesday will cost $13 per person for rides and will be honored until 11 p.m.

Wednesday is the fair's annual "Kiddies Day," and includes such child-pleasing activities as barn tours, coin hunt, bicycle give-away, frog jumping contest, Ronald McDonald magic show, Deb Collier's Dance Studio and pedal tractor pull.

Rides Wednesday are $1 each from 1 p.m. to closing.

The 4-H dairy calf feeder steer show starts the fair Wednesday at 8 a.m., and other 4-H activities include the sheep show, horse and pony English and contesting and junior and senior versatility.

In the Activity Tent, the Little Mr. and Miss Contest interviews for 5- to 7-year-olds will take place at 6:30 p.m., and the senior talent contest, for ages 13 to 21, will be at the same time and place. The Little Mr. and Miss Contest will follow at 8 p.m. in the Activity Tent.

The Wright Brothers will give two free concerts in the grandstand at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday is "Senior Citizens' and Farmers' Day," and fairgoers who are 65 or older can pay only $1 admission between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Special events Thursday will include bingo and euchre in the Activity Tent, the Senior Queen Contest at noon and the annual horseshoe pitch in the Activity Woods.

4-H horse and pony Western and contesting begins at 9 a.m. at the east end of the fairgrounds, followed by the dairy show and supreme showmanship.

For entertainment, "Alicia Rose, Indiana State Fair contest winner, will be in the Activity Tent at 2 p.m., and Spike and the Bulldogs will be there at 8 p.m.

Thursday is wristband day from 1 to 11 p.m. for $13 per person.

Friday is "Sponsorship and Media Day" at the county fair. Horse and pony contesting starts the 4-H activities for the day, followed by the livestock auction at 10 a.m. in the show arena.

The toy give-away is at 2 p.m., horse and pony awards are presented at 4 p.m. and the NTPA Super Semi Nationals begin at the grandstand at 7:30 p.m. The Guitar Woodies also entertain at 7 p.m. in the Activity Tent.

Wristbands are available Friday for $10 per person from 1 to 6 p.m., with rides costing regular ticket prices after 6 p.m.

Saturday as the fair begins to wind down, the activities are still going strong, with the NTPA Super Semi Nationals at 7:30 p.m. in the grandstand.

Tri-State Beef Round-Up Cattlemen's Steer, Heifer and Bull Show will be at the Show Arena for a fee, and the "Amarillo Star" Line Dancers will be at the fair office area.

Wristbands will be available Saturday for rides on the Midway until 6 p.m. for $10 each.

The last day of the fair, Sunday, is "Family Day." A gospel sing and worship services at the Activity Tent start the day, and the exhibits and the Shrine Building open at noon.

Christopher Green, deaf musician, will sing Christian music in sign language in the Activity Tent starting at 2 p.m., followed by karaoke with May and Marlin Cox at 5 p.m.

The end-of-fair drawing in the Activity Tent will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Midway will open Sunday at 1 p.m., as it does every other day of the fair, and will close at 10 p.m. Wristbands will be available for $13 per person.
