Despite record-breaking rainfall elsewhere in the Northern Indiana region, most of Kosciusko County received between 1 and 3 inches over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Syracuse reported the highest rainfall in the county with 4.36 inches. Kosciusko County Highway Department Road Foreman Gary Adams said his department posted signs warning motorists of high water on Cornelius Road, Syracuse.High water, Adams said, was not the main challenge his department faced during the weekend.
"We had a lot of trees down," he said.
Adams said high winds brought down tree limbs all over the county, keeping highway crews busy from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
The NWS issued a flood warning for Elkhart and St. Joseph counties where rainfall reached as high as 11 inches. The warning was active through 10:15 a.m. today. The NWS warned motorists to avoid areas where water has covered roads.
