Kosciusko County Democrats will meet at Pizza King, 1039 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The meeting will be a pay-your-own-way pizza buffet.
The Democrat Party also wants to resume its biweekly breakfasts and support other organizations that use the breakfast format as fund raisers. If there is a church or organization in your area that has public breakfasts or dinners, let Frances Head, Kosciusko County Democratic Central Committee chairwoman, know and she will try to schedule the get-togethers at those events.
Head can be reached at 268-0911 or 352-2393.
This year is an off-year for elections. However, the Democratic Central Committee wants to start working now for 2002. The party hopes to provide a slate of strong candidates in 2002, according to Head, and to work with those candidates to provide support and a platform that will reach out to the voters.
The party has two initiatives to meet that goal.
Head is working now to identify potential candidates for 2002. She wants precinct committeemen and -women to think about possible candidates in their areas who would be strong potential candidates for office.
Democratic Party Treasurer Howard Woodward Jr. is forming a strategic planning team for the party. The planning team will learn more about the demographics of county voters and other party stakeholders: identify their needs, interests and concerns and then prioritize those; develop objectives; and make plans to address those. Woodward is looking for team members who represent a broad cross-section of the population with all ages, economic levels, occupations, races, religions and lifestyles represented.
Head is seeking information about party members' opinions about keeping the headquarters open after the lease expires. She said it is believed the headquarters does provide needed exposure, though it costs $400 per month, which must be raised through donations.
A questionnaire regarding the headquarters, candidates, breakfasts and the strategic planning team has been sent to party members.
Officers of the Kosciusko County Democratic Party are chairwoman Frances Head; vice-chairman Charles Cain; secretary Pam Cartwright; and treasurer Howard Woodward Jr.
Woodward was elected treasurer of the party at a caucus Nov. 28. Steve Haines previously held the position but resigned after the November election.
The Democrat Party headquarters is at 107 E. Market St., Warsaw, and the Web site address is www.kconline.com/kcdemocrats
