County Councilman Kinsey Dies at 82

Posted
Long-time Kosciusko  County Councilman John Kinsey passed away Tuesday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Kinsey, 82, served the county’s fourth district.

In 2007, he was named to the county GOP’s Hall of Fame.

A barber who owned a downtown shop, Kinsey had told friends privately when he was diagnosed with cancer and also let friends know he was terminal.

Publicly, Kinsey continued to attend council meetings until the first of this year and he had told council members he hoped to return to the council at some point.

“John was insightful,” said county councilman Bob Sanders. “He was very helpful to me as a new councilman. He was always there to get my questions answered.”

“He was just a downright good person,” said Sanders.

Kinsey’s district includes the southern half of Kosciusko County along with Wayne Township but does not include the city of Warsaw.

Kinsey won re-election in 2010. A special caucus by the GOP will be held to determine Kinsey’s replacement.

Kinsey’s pending obituary appears on page 3A of today’s edition.

A full obituary is expected in Thursday’s edition.
