County Council OKs Transfer of $1M for Road Projects

Posted
County Council approved Thursday the transfer of $1 million into the county highway fund to cover upcoming road projects.
The funds were transerred from county economic development income tax money. In the past, highway projects were paid directly with CEDIT money,  county Auditor Marsha McSherry noted.
Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden is preparing a list of four or five of the most needed road projects, which he expects to present for approval next month.
Also in the highway fund, council approved the transfer of $4,459.62 from insurance payment to garage and motor supplies.
And they approved transfers totaling $8,250 from the drug and alcohol user fees operating supplies fund and $19,500 from adult probation operating supplies into specific expenses such as phones and travel. The breakdown into newly created expense funds was required by the state Department of Local Government Finance.
And they approved transfers totaling $3,304.60 within county sheriff’s department funds to cover repairs of a cruiser that struck a deer.
“We’re doing our best to keep the deer population down in the county,” quipped county Sheriff Rocky Goshert.
Also during the meeting, council voted to allow Superior Court Judge Joe Sutton to appoint a replacement court secretary after Ann Torpy left the position to become clerk of courts. The appointment will not be a new hire, and council member Brad Tandy said the wage committee determined that Sutton’s caseload justifies the request.
And council heard from Administrator Ron Robinson that county workers will be removing cottonwood trees near the work release center on East Center Street. Robinson said the trees have required an almost monthly expense in changing HVAC filters at the building.
