At Thursday night’s Kosciusko County Council meeting, the council approved the salary increase for the health department, transfers to the sheriff’s department and endorsed an orthopedic hospital.
Kosciusko County Sheriff Rocky Goshert asked the council to transfer $8,015 from an insurance repayment to the repairs and maintenance fund. The council approved the transfer.
One of the sheriff’s department patrol vehicles was in an accident with a deer in the early morning hours of Dec. 17 at the intersection of Ind. 15 and Union Street in Warsaw.
At the previous meeting, the council approved a salary ordinance for the health department. The health department re-evaluated a position in the office and decided to create the position of office manager. The new position will be held by office registrar Linda Gottschalk.
“There is a $1,400 difference between the two positions,” said County Administrator Bob Weaver. “There are new responsibilities and a new job description. We saw a need for an office manager since a lot of the work we do is field work and we need someone to make decisions while we are outside of the office.”
The new position still reports to the county administrator. The council approved the salary increase.
The council also endorsed the stance of the Kosciusko County Redevelopment Commission on the possibility of an orthopedic hospital in Warsaw. In a press release issued Thursday, the Redevelopment Commission supported OrthoWorx in their endeavor for a feasibility study.
“The Kosciusko County Redevelopment Commission recognizes the value and supports the community in having an orthopedic hospital in Kosciusko County,” the release said. “We appreciate the willingness for OrthoWorx to move forward with the feasibility study. The Kosciusko County Redevelopment Commission expresses our full support on such an endeavor.”
The next meeting of the Kosciusko County Council is March 8 at 7:30 p.m.
