County Awarded Federal Funds Under Emergency Food, Shelter Board Program

Posted

Kosciusko County was chosen to receive $14,861 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

A local board with representation from the county will determine how the funds awarded to Kosciusko County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The local board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and, if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

Kosciusko County has distributed emergency food and shelter funds previously with the Beaman Home, Washington Township Food Pantry and The Salvation Army.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must submit a letter of interest to United Way of Kosciusko County, P.O. Box 923, Warsaw, IN 46581-0923. Describe your intentions for the use of these dollars as well as a requested amount. The deadline for submitting a letter will be Feb. 17 by noon.
