Corporate Dodgeball Fundraiser Planned Tuesday At Grace

Posted

Teams from several businesses in Warsaw will hit the court at Grace College's Lancer Gym Tuesday for the second annual Corporate Dodgeball event.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, teams will begin their quest for the honor of being Warsaw's top dog of dodgeball.

Last year's winning team, the YMCA, will try to defend its title in this year's single-elimination tournament. Other teams scheduled to appear at the event are Baker Youth Clubs, Lake City Bank, Mutual Federal Savings Bank, Paragon Medical, Biomet, Zimmer, Medtronic, InstruMed, REMC, CTB, Bart's Watersports, Lakeside Chevy, Explorer Van and The Car Company.

Admission for the event, which is sponsored by the Bowen Center, is $2, with all proceeds going to the United Way. Children 10 and under are free.

Along with watching the dodgeball matches, spectators will get the chance to enter the "Hit the Mascot Challenge."

Awards will be given to the person who takes the biggest hit and to the team with the best outfits.

Each team is allowed to have a maximum of 10 players, with eight players allowed on the court at a time.

Players are eliminated when they are hit by a ball thrown by an opponent before it hits the ground.

The first team to eliminate all the other players on the opposing team is the winner of the match.

There is a 5-minute time limit for each match.

Referees for this year's contest are Karen Lauthian and Pat Coy from the United Way.

One of the highlights from last year's event came when teams from Zimmer and Biomet faced off on the court. Zimmer had three players left to battle one Biomet player. The Biomet player knocked off all three Zimmer opponents to win the match for Biomet.
