Conley Wins Silver Lake Republican Nomination for Clerk

Posted
SILVER LAKE – Tonya Conley defeated Silver Lake incumbent clerk-treasurer Angie Glass by three votes during a Republican caucus Saturday morning.

The caucus was at the Silver Lake Lions Building.

Conley will be on the November ballot and face Democrat Angel McGlennen.

Silver Lake Republican town nominating chair Stan Williams read the vote totals. Conley received 29 votes, Glass received 26 votes, and Teresa Howell received nine votes during Saturday’s convention.

Each candidate had three minutes to speak about why they will make the best clerk-treasurer and Silver Lake residents then cast their votes.

Conley previously worked under Glass in the Silver Lake clerk’s office as deputy clerk from 2006-2009 and as the town’s receptionist from 2009-2010.

She is employed at PNC Bank, Warsaw.

“I’m ecstatic and shocked and don’t think it has sunk in,” Conley said after winning Saturday.

She said one of her goals is bringing businesses into the town.

“If we have a big project we have a goal for, we need to invest money to get the interest from the money to help with the project and not expect to raise taxes to do that project,” Conley said.

Conley said she would like to work with the council and department supervisors to lessen the burden on tax payers.

“We can achieve this by filing and receiving grants, figuring out where to cut costs, and investing money for future projects,” Conley said.

She said she would like to have the clerk’s office open one or two evenings per week so residents can voice their concerns, ask a question or pay a utility bill.

Conley thanked the voters for voting in Saturday’s convention, and said she looks forward to serving the town if elected in November.

Conley is married to John, and they have two children, Bryce, 14, and Hanna, 12.
