Congressional Candidate Speaks To Silent No More Group In WarsawThird District Congressional candidate Marlin Stutzman spoke in Warsaw Tuesday night about his run for the 3rd district Congressional seat.

Kosciusko Silent No More hosted Stutzman (R-Howe) at New Life Christian Church and World Outreach during the event that was attended by 130 people.

Stutzman won the June 12 Republican congressional caucus in Columbia City, defeating 14 other candidates.

He faces Dr. Tom Hayhurst (D-Fort Wayne)in the Nov. 2 special and general election.

The congressional seat needs to be filled after Mark Souder resigned May 21 after admitting to an affair with a staffer.

Stutzman spoke for two hours about his run for the congressional seat and there was a time for questions and answers.

He said government is not the answer to our problems, government is the problem.

"You look at the health care bill, take over of the housing industry and it points back to the failed policies in D.C.," Stutzman said.

He said throwing money at problems is not the answer, and to change Washington there needs to be a change in who is sent to Washington.

Bold decisions need to be made in Washington whether it is cutting earmarks or reducing the debt, according to Stutzman.

He said he supports a balanced budget amendment that allows for checks and balances.

"One of the first priorities for Congress is to be responsible with tax payer's money and not pass an unbalanced budget," Stutzman said.

He was asked if he supports term limits, and he said he does and that they need to be reasonable and said serving in Congress is about public service, not a career.

He said it is wrong to kill millions of babies every year, and wrong to allow government spend the country into trillions of dollars of debt.

Monica Boyer, Kosciusko Silent No More founder, said the group is working to bring U.S. Senate candidates Dan Coats (R-Fort Wayne) and Brad Ellsworth (D-Evansville) to Warsaw for a debate. The group also is working on a debate between Stutzman and Hayhurst.

Dates and times for the debates have not yet been set.
