WINONA LAKE – Thursday’s National Day of Prayer at the Rodeheaver Auditorium, Winona Lake, focused on praying together.
Ken Locke, National Day of Prayer team member, said, “It’s interesting that this is the 75th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer considering that this is going to be, soon, we’re going to have the 250th celebration of the United States of America in July. And it’s also interesting that on Sept. 11, it will be the 25th anniversary of that day. Isn’t it interesting how sometimes things work together?”
He said people came together Thursday “because we want to seek God’s face, to seek his leading and his guidance for our nation.”
The theme verse this year is from 1 Chronicles 16:24: “Glorify God among the nations seeking Him in all generations. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”
“And that’s what we want to do today. We want to declare His story. It’s not about us. It’s about Him and the ways in which he has blessed us and may he do so today,” Locke said. “And as you’ve heard me say many years, I’ve said let’s make every day a National Day of Prayer. Not just one day. It’s important to have one day, but let’s make every day a National Day of Prayer.”
People were gathered in tables at the Rodeheaver Auditorium and prayed together for families, schools, the military, the government and those suffering and persecuted.
There were spiritual ideas for discussion, as well as guides.
The No Name Quartet led in singing the national anthem and sang “Gentle Shepherd” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”
Quintin Whitaker and Jordan Fredericks sang “God Bless America” with Terry White playing the piano.
The benediction was done by Kenn Chupp, from Warsaw Missionary Church.
