NORTH WEBSTER – A Columbia City man died in a watercraft crash on Webster Lake Saturday afternoon. Jeffery Melvin, 53, Columbia City, was operating a personal watercraft on Lake Webster when he made an immediate and abrupt right turn into the path of another personal watercraft, according to a press release from Indiana Department of Natural Resources. A friend of Melvin was operating the other watercraft and attempted to turn to avoid a collision. When the two watercrafts collided, the second one ramped over Melvin’s and struck him in the right side of his torso. Melvin was transported by Samaritan to a hospital in Fort Wayne. He died there due to his injuries on Monday night. Indiana conservation officers are continuing to investigate the fatal incident. No foul play is suspected.
