Kim Kennedy, Columbia City, faces a charge of interfering with custody after police say he took his four children to Michigan in June. Kennedy, 51, was arrested Wednesday night and held with a bond of $100,250. In June, Kennedy was granted visitation rights for his children for June 13 from noon to 3 p.m. and June 21 from noon to 3 p.m. On June 21, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department received a call after 3 p.m. from the children’s grandmother saying their mother had custody but that Kennedy had not returned the children yet. She was concerned because Kennedy had refused to bring the children back in the past, according to the probable cause affidavit from the Kosciusko County prosecutor’s office. KCSD attempted to contact Kennedy but his Verizon phone was no longer in service. Officers contacted Verizon and learned that the number had recently been changed. On June 22, Verizon provided KCSD with the GPS location of the new phone, which was located in Ann Arbor, Mich.
