Winona Literary Club Met
WINONA LAKE – Winona Literary Club met Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Village Robin Hood Community Center in Winona Lake, with 21 members and one guest. President Marcia Lee welcomed those in attendance.
In keeping with this year's theme, "Aging with Grace: Taking Time Tea," floral designer Lea Fitzgerald of Anderson Florist & Greenhouse delighted members with an engaging presentation on floral design, combining advice with ideas for repurposing household items. Drawing on her 38 years of experience and fondness for the 1970s, Fitzgerald showed how even a wooden salad bowl from her childhood and a teacup and saucer could become containers for floral arrangements. She also shared insights into the floral industry, offered helpful tips for caring for fresh flowers and encouraged members to personalize arrangements with meaningful keepsakes. Her presentation prompted an interested question-and-answer session and concluded with appreciative applause from the members.
Following the program, members gathered for a brief business meeting and refreshments. Those in attendance enjoyed a warm pumpkin dessert topped with whipped cream and a festive candy pumpkin, along with mixed nuts and cheese cubes, while seasonal decorations, colorful tableware and gourds carried an autumn theme.
The Winona Literary Club will meet again Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Village Robin Hood Community Center. The program will feature cellist Marie Essex, inviting attendees to enjoy the rich, warm tones and beautiful melodies of the cello. Club member Marla Norris will also present a book review. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to club president Marcia Lee by phone or text at 574-527-7687 by Oct. 31.
