Altrusa Club of Warsaw’s Bingo for Beaman was held Oct. 15 at the Manahan Orthopedic Capital Center on the Grace College campus.
Over 175 bingo prizes plus door prizes were up for grabs. Nearly 450 participates waited for their magic numbers to be called and hear the words “that’s a good bingo.”
Every ticket purchased, every prize donated, every laugh around the tables, and every dollar raised represents something much bigger: it is an investment in hope, new beginnings and safety for clients and their children, stated the release.
Bingo for Beaman is Altrusa-Warsaw’s largest service project. Altrusa members canvas the community for bingo and door prize donations. Altrusans and the Beaman Home employees volunteer many hours planning the event as well as set up and tear down the day of bingo.
The first Bingo for Beaman was held in October 2011 at the Center Lake Pavillion with approximately 100 participants. Over the years, community support increased and the MOCC has become the home of Bingo for Beaman.
In 1985, under the leadership of Mary Ann Cox, Altrusa-Warsaw founded the Beaman Home. The original home donated by Charlene Bradbury was a house located across from Warsaw Cut Glass.
In 2011, the Beaman Board led by Altrusan Beth Huffer recognized the need for a new facility. In 2012, the property at 603 N. Parker St., Warsaw, was purchased. Altrusan Sue Creighton and Beaman Home Executive Director Tracie Hodson led a $2 million fund drive. Funds were raised over four years as the facility was refurbished in phases. The new Beaman Home was dedicated in August of 2016.
The Beaman Home currently serves survivors of domestic violence in Kosciusko, Marshall and Fulton counties through residential and outreach.
Altrusa’s next big event is the Altrusa Spring Bazaar to be held March 6, 2027, at Edgewood Middle School.
