Winona Literary Club Met
WINONA LAKE – The Winona Literary Club met Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Village Robin Hood Community Center in Winona Lake, with 18 members and six guests. President Marcia Lee welcomed those present for an afternoon of music, literature and fellowship, continuing the club's 2026–27 theme, “Aging with Grace: Taking Time for Tea.”
The afternoon's musical guests were The Acoustic Trio, featuring Brian Brauchla, Larry Easterday and Jack Harrell. The three gentlemen entertained with a relaxed selection of familiar classics and Christian songs, including “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and the contemporary Christian favorite “Goodness of God.”
Afterward, Carol Volkers presented a book review, beginning with a brief recommendation of “Theo of Golden,” a novel by Allen Levi. She shared an excerpt from the book before turning her attention to “The Lives, Fortunes, and Sacred Honor of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence” by David and Tim Barton. The book explores the individual lives and experiences of the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence. She shared accounts of several signers, including Samuel Adams and Benjamin Rush, illustrating how much more there is to discover about the men whose names helped establish the nation. Her presentation offered an interesting reminder of the personal histories, convictions and sacrifices behind America's founding document.
Following the program, members gathered for a brief business meeting and refreshments. A delicious chocolate pistachio cake was served, while patriotic napkins, flowers and charming table decorations added a festive touch.
The club will meet again Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Village Robin Hood Community Center. The featured speaker will be Leah Fitzgerald, head designer for Anderson Greenhouse and Florist. All ladies of the community are welcome to attend. To reserve your spot with the club, either as a guest or to join as a member, please text or call your RSVP to Lee at 574-527-7687 by Oct. 17.
