Daughters Of The American Revolution Met
The Agnes Pruyn Chapman Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, met recently at Savatori’s Restaurant, Warsaw. The program was presented by Ken Keffer from the YMCA.
Twelve members and one guest were present. The opening ritual, pledge of allegiance, preamble and American creed were led by Regent Kathy Gawthrop. Gawthrop also read the present general’s message about preservation grants. Susan Creamer read the national defense report about Deborah Samson.
The treasurer’s report was given by Janice Cox and Jennifer Simpson read the minutes from the previous month. Committee reports were given by Shirley Hunter Smith, Gail Roberts and Gawthrop on the Adrian Anglin celebration in October.
Maureen Mauzy, Smith and Simpson attended the Northeast DAR district meeting on July 18 in Huntington. Books were donated from the chapter for a total district donation of 249 books. Twenty-one awards were presented to the chapter at the district meeting.
The bylaws committee of Mauzy, Smith, Simpson and Lori Townsend have completed their work. Sophia Smith from Wawasee High School has won our chapter’s Good Citizen Scholarship. She will be attending St. Mary’s College as a journalism major.
Member training is available on September 8 in Plymouth from 6 to 8 p.m. Mauzy, Sally Dewald, Gawthrop, Smith, Alice Adams and Simpson are planning to attend.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22. Any woman 18 years or older who can prove direct lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot is eligible for membership. View the NSDAR website or contact Gawthrop at 574-527-2674 or Simpson at 574-527-1677.
