Winona Literary Club Met
WINONA LAKE – Founded in 1903, the Winona Literary Club is one of the nation’s oldest continually active women’s literary organizations. The club meets biweekly during the fall and spring seasons at the Grace Village Robin Hood Community Center in Winona Lake for programs featuring literature, music, culture, learning and fellowship.
On Wednesday, the Winona Literary Club gathered for its annual spring luncheon at noon at the Robin Hood Community Center in Winona Lake. The luncheon was catered by Roy Navarro and the Foodology staff from Columbia City. There were 23 members and six guests in attendance.
Featured musician Stacey Bollman, of Warsaw, shared a violin performance that delighted those present. Bollman began studying the violin at the age of 8 in Winona Lake and has spent many years performing and teaching music in the local community. She performs with the Symphony of the Lakes and the Manchester Symphony Orchestra and has taught violin students in the area for the past 25 years. Songs she performed included “The Sound of Music,” “Edelweiss,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Amazing Grace” and “Be Thou My Vision,” before moving into longer classical works, including “La Folia” by Antonio Vivaldi and selections from Johann Sebastian Bach.
Hostesses for the luncheon were Mary Jane Schmitt, Karolyn Barrus and Pat Redpath. Tables were decorated with white tablecloths, violet placemats and teapots filled with small floral arrangements, complemented by traditional china and silver place settings.
The spring luncheon brought the club’s season and theme, "Life is a Journey, Travel it Well!," to a close as members now look ahead to resuming meetings and a new theme, "Aging with Grace; Taking Time for Tea," this autumn. The next meeting of the Winona Literary Club will be Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Robin Hood Community Center in Winona Lake. Guests and prospective members are always welcome. Ladies from the community interested in attending may call or text Marcia Lee at 574-527-7687 by Sept. 19 for reservations.
