Literary Club Met
WINONA LAKE – The Winona Literary Club met on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Robin Hood Community Center in Winona Lake. There were 17 members present and two guests.
A musical program was presented by Ann Rego, with piano accompaniment by Dr. Judie Meulink. Meulink has been active in the Warsaw and Winona Lake music community since 1993 as a performer, teacher and administrator. Both she and Rego are involved in the Community Arts Program children’s choirs. Rego, a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University with a degree in vocal performance, lives in Warsaw with her husband and teaches private voice and piano lessons to students of all ages.
Rego opened with “Climbing Uphill” from The Last Five Years. She followed with “I’ll Be Here” from Ordinary Days. Meulink then performed “The Journey Home” by Kozue Ishikawa. Rego also performed “Morgen” by Richard Strauss, singing in German. The program concluded with “The Schmuel Song” from The Last Five Years.
Afterward, Esther Eickhoff reviewed “Theo of Golden” by Allen Levi, an attorney, judge, singer-songwriter and now a novelist from rural Georgia. A recent New York Times Best Seller (2025), the book follows Theo, an elderly man whose brief residence in a small town quietly transforms those around him. Told through letters and portraits, the story highlights the power of attentiveness, compassion and truly listening to others. Though the ending felt somewhat abrupt, Esther recommended the book for its uplifting and meaningful message. Her review was well-received and met with generous applause.
Afterward, there was a short business meeting with the reading of the minutes from the previous club meeting, followed by the treasurer's report. Refreshments served by the hostesses were a lemon cream pie, grapes and cheese. Tables were decorated for spring and had little chocolate eggs to share.
The next meeting will take place on April 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the Robin Hood Community Center in Winona Lake. The featured speaker will be Tom Miller. He will share a presentation titled “Drawn to the Son.” Known for a lifetime of service and faith, at 88, Miller’s life reflects decades of kindness, quiet compassion and a deep love for his Savior, often expressed through his visits, prayers and even hymns shared with those in need. To register, either as a guest or as a member, RSVP to Marcia by calling 574-527-7687 and leaving a message by April 25.
The Winona Literary Club extends an open invitation to women all over the community to take part in its 122-year legacy of culture and connection. Meeting regularly in the fall and spring, the club hosts programs that highlight local voices, literature and music. Each gathering offers a chance to learn, listen and enjoy meaningful conversation in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
