Claypool Woman Dies In Crash On Ind. 15

Posted

Kathryn Walters was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries suffered in the crash. The semi-driver, John M. Schwebke, 43, Friendship, Wis., suffered a hand injury.

According to police, at 10:36 a.m., Walters pulled out of Anderson Greenhouse's parking lot directly into the northbound tractor-trailer's path of travel. Schwebke tried to avoid collision by braking, but the accident was unavoidable.

Walters apparently was trying to make a left turn onto Ind. 15 when she pulled out in front of the tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer was traveling at 35 to 40 mph, so speed is not considered a factor. According to the police report, the accident's cause appears to be Walters' failure to yield the right of way.

Schwebke's hand injury was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital.

The accident continues to be under investigation, pending drug and alcohol test results.

Warsaw Police Department was assisted by Warsaw Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS and Milford Police.
