A Claypool woman was arrested Friday for her involvement in a head-on crash in July that sent her and the other driver to the hospital.
Noma Jean McPeak, 46, of 5562 Swan Court, Claypool, was arrested at 2:02 p.m. Friday and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury. Her bond was set at $2,500.
Officers responded to the crash around 6:40 p.m. July 2 on South Ind. 15 near the intersection of Rosewood Drive, Warsaw. The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department crash report states McPeak’s vehicle was traveling south on Ind. 15 when she crossed the center line and turned in front of a vehicle driven by Debbie J. Whybrew, 40, Poplar Street, Silver Lake.
Whybrew told officers she attempted to swerve to avoid the collision but was unable to, and McPeak struck her head-on. McPeak’s vehicle then struck a metal utility pole.
McPeak told police she could not remember what had happened to cause the accident, though when an officer asked if she had been drinking, she responded, “Oh yeah, I’ve been drinking,” according to the report.
She was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, to be treated for head injuries and Whybrew was transported by EMS to Kosciusko Community Hospital to be treated for injuries with bleeding.
