GOSHEN - A Claypool teen was killed Wednesday night in a snowmobile accident in Goshen.
Anthony D. Eberly, 16, of South Beaver Dam Road, suffered head injuries when he was thrown from the snowmobile he was operating. Eberly suffered head injuries when he struck a fence post. He was not wearing a helmet, according to an accident report filed by the Department of Natural Resources.
Eberly and some friends were riding snowmobiles along Elkhart CR 40 in a farm field that he was not familiar with when the accident occurred, officials said. He apparently was not aware that the fence was there. Eberly's snowmobile struck the fence and became airborne before Eberly came into contact with the fence post.
Authorities said darkness affected Eberly's ability to see the lane where the other boys were riding. The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m.
Funeral arrangements for Eberly are pending at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
