CLAYPOOL - Claypool Town Council members met Monday and discussed two new ordinances.

A tree lawn ordinance was discussed and passed to establish who is responsible for the maintenance of the area from the property line to the street, known as the tree lawn. The ordinance officially states that tree lawns are being defined as the area of land located between the paved portion of any town, street, alley or other right of way and the property line of the adjoining real estate not owned by the town of Claypool. The owner or occupant of the property shall be responsible for maintenance, which includes, but is not limited to, mowing grass, trash removal, and trimming of the trees or shrubs.

A town curfew ordinance also was discussed and passed which amends one that was adopted in 1992. The new ordinance establishes curfews and appropriate penalties when needed.

Teens under the age of 15 must be indoors before 10 p.m. Curfew for teens between the ages of 15 and 17 is 11 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Saturday and 11 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday.

There will be a number of exceptions to this rule, such as traveling with a parent or guardian, traveling to or from work or exercising religious beliefs.

A person who violates the ordinance is in violation of a separate offense for each day or part of a day during which the violation is committed. The penalty for the first offense will be a $15 fine, the second offense will be $30, and the third will be $50.
