Claypool Clerk-Treasurer Race A Tie In General Election

The Claypool clerk-treasurer race was a tie during Tuesday's general election.

Candidates include incumbent Democrat Tricia Marino and Republican Arlene Leiter. Both received 27 votes.

Clerk Circuit Court Sharon Christner said since there was a tie, the procedure is to notify both party candidates, party leaders and the Claypool Town Council.Christner said the council will have until Dec. 31 to vote on a clerk-treasurer.

Marino was appointed as the town's clerk-treasurer in June after former clerk-treasurer Niki Miller resigned.

"I hope to continue to serve the town of Claypool and hope the council will give me the opportunity to do so," Marino said.

Leiter said she ran for clerk-treasurer in 1987, serving four terms. She said she enjoyed serving the town.

"I am surprised there was a tie, the vote could have gone either way," Leiter said.

At Claypool, town council Incumbent Republican Donald Miller II was re-elected with 36.04 percent of the vote (40 votes); Incumbent Republican Larry Neher was re-elected with 34.23 percent of the vote (38 votes) and Libertarian David Dills received 29.73 percent of the vote (33 votes).

In the Silver Lake election, incumbent Angela Glass was re-elected to a second term.

Glass received 67.95 percent of the vote (106 votes). Independent candidate Teresa Howell received 32.05 percent of the vote (50 votes).

"I feel wonderful to be re-elected and my goal is to assist the council in bringing more businesses to the town and continue to improve the town's economy," Glass said.

Also, for the Silver Lake town council race, incumbent Republican Ronald Jones was re-elected and received 21.13 percent of the vote (97 votes); Democrat Gale Owens received 24.84 percent of the vote (114 votes); and Republican Linda Baker received 19.83 percent of the vote (91 votes).
