City, Town Elections Scheduled For Nov. 4

General elections will be held Nov. 4 in Warsaw, Pierceton, North Webster, Mentone and Silver Lake.

Republican incumbent mayor Ernie Wiggins faces Independent Party challenger Jerry Opperud in Warsaw.

Three candidates are running for the two open at-large seats. Republicans Joe Thallemer, the incumbent, and Bob Morrison, who won in the May primary election, will be on the ballot along with Libertarian Daniel Stevens.

Clerk-treasurer Elaine Call and councilmen Jeff Grose (District 1), Charles Smith (District 2), George Clemens (Dist. 3), Jerry Patterson (District 4) and Bill Rhoades (District 5), all Repbulicans, are unchallenged.

In Pierceton, Democrat Janet Castle is unchallenged.

However, town council incumbents Jerry Kreger (R), Ron Hall (D) and Terry Hill (D) face competition from Rex Alley (R) and Robert Tenney (R).

In North Webster, newcomers Lisa Francis (R) and Betsy Luce (D) seek the clerk-treasurer's seat.

Kay Andrews (R) is the only incumbent to emerge from August's town convention and is challenged by Republicans John Routh and Jon Sroufe and Democrats James Chapman and Jane Shepherd for one of three council seats.

In Mentone, Republican Barbara Ross is unchallenged as clerk-treasurer.

Mentone town council candidates include three Republicans: incumbent Mark Hughes, Lynn Phillips and Jack Simpson; and three Democrats: Tim Croy, Forrest Kantner and Terry Reed.

In Silver Lake, Republican Angela Glass and Democrat Dawn Pruitt seek the clerk-treasurer's office.

The town council race for three seats includes seven candidates: Ronald Jones (R), Thomas Waite (R), former councilman Stanley Williams (R), Janice Horn (D), incumbent Gale Owens (D), incumbent Brenda Wadkins (D) and former coucilman Wilbur Brake (I).

Town conventions settled elected official positions in Claypool, Milford, Sidney and Etna Green.

Deloris Rose (D) is clerk-treasurer in Claypool, joining town council Republican incumbents Niki Miller, Larry Neher and Don Miller.

In Milford, Charlotte Siegfried continues as clerk-treasurer. District 1 town councilman, and incumbent Douglas Ruch, who will be joined by District 2 representative Gary Hurd and District 3's Robert Cockburn, all Republicans.

Sidney's officeholders are Marcia Dierkes (R), clerk-treasurer; and incumbent town councilmen Harold Lent (R), Kenneth Koontz (D) and Lydia Neal (D).

Laura Baker will be Etna Green's clerk-treasurer, and Todd Slabaugh, Eileen Hall and Andrew Cook are town council members. They are all first-time officeholders.

Elected positions in Syracuse were settled in the May primary. They are: incumbent Carol Koble (District 3), Brian Woody (District 4) and Brian Antonides (District 5) for the town council, along with Julie Kline, clerk-treasurer.

In Winona Lake, Republican town council incumbents were re-elected: Jerry Clevenger (District 2), Rolly Ortega (District 3), David Delp (District 4) and Jeff Carroll (District 5).

Craig Snow retained his District 1 council seat in May, too. However, he has moved from town. His seat remains unfilled.

Retha Hicks will continue as Winona Lake clerk-treasurer.
