A year-and-a-half old traffic study by Meijer will be reviewed by the Warsaw Traffic Commission next week.
The study is of land at Anchorage Road and U.S. 30 and was provided by Meijer and approved by the Indiana Department of Transportation.
The study was taken and will now be reviewed by Warsaw's Traffic Commission.
Even if the study is approved it doesn't necessarily mean that a Meijer store will be coming to Warsaw.
Should the traffic commission approve the study next week, the property would have to be rezoned. Then further development and traffic studies would have to be completed after that.
Warsaw city planner Jeremy Skinner noted that even if Wednesday's traffic study is approved, a possible Meijer location would be a long way off from shovels hitting the ground.
The land is owned by James Katris, Winona Lake, who declined comment this morning on any possible dealings with Meijer.
Meijer attempted to build a store in Warsaw in 2000 on Husky Trail near Patterson Road in Warsaw.
In June 2000, the Warsaw City Council denied a rezoning request for Meijer made by attorney Steve Snyder. The Warsaw Plan Commission also unanimously recommended to deny the request.
It was noted in 2000 that traffic was a concern at the intersection of Parker Street, as it crosses U.S. 30, and Husky Trail, even though Meijer at that time offered to make improvements at the Parker Street intersection.
That site is now home to developments including Menard's and Martin's Supermarket.
Lanes have been added north of U.S. 30 and no thru traffic is allowed toward U.S. 30 on Dubois Drive from the south.
Snyder declined comment on whether or not Meijer had contacted him once again for legal representation. Snyder said ethics bound him and that he couldn't comment either way as to whether Meijer has been in touch with him.
A call to Meijer, headquartered near Grand Rapids, Mich., was not returned at press time.
