City To Hear About Homeless Shelter Monday

Warsaw City Council will hear a presentation Monday night about the idea of locating a permanent homeless shelter in downtown Warsaw.

Eric Lane, Fellowship Missions director, said he will speak at the meeting Monday night about the homeless shelter.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

Temporary homeless shelters have been located at various churches in 2008 and 2009, but Lane said a permanent shelter is needed that serves men, women and children.

Fellowship Missions has offered a transitional house in Warsaw since March that currently houses six men.

Lane said Fellowship Missions has looked at locations for the permanent shelter since May.

He said the group signed a contract three to four weeks ago to purchase the former Brennan Building, 110 E. Market St., and has put money down, with plans of renovating the building for a permanent homeless shelter.

The vacant building is owned by Farmers State Bank."We have had the shelter at various churches, but feel led to have a permanent shelter in Warsaw," Lane said.

Cindy Dobbins, Warsaw Community Development Corp. director, said she contacted downtown merchants Friday informing them of Monday night's meeting so they can learn more about the shelter.
