City To Fund Traffic Study For Kroger Gas Kiosk

Posted

The city has decided to pay $3,000 to $5,000 for a traffic study before approving Kroger Company's request for a gas kiosk at 2101 E. Center St.

Joe Thallemer, re-elected president of the planning commission Monday, said he'd asked Mayor Ernie Wiggins about an independent study encompassing current traffic patterns and future patterns "as if" the empty Sav-A-Lot building were occupied.

Wiggins, who attended the meeting said the study is the best alternative.

Although three Kroger Co. representatives were in attendance, they made no comment.

Appearing since the November planning commission meeting questions have centered around the placement and width of traffic cuts onto Center Street.

Several alternatives have been proposed over the course of the last two months and, at the December meeting, the latest suggestions were to be reviewed by the traffic commission.

No traffic commission recommendation was mentioned Monday.

Planners gave final plat approval to Bruce Woodward's 3 lot residential subdivison at Kincaide Crossing on Logan Street south of Eagle Creek.

Zoned R-1 all improvement requests were met including construction of a minimum 18 foot roadbed with 4-inches of asphalt on the future street and a minimum 12 foot roadbed with three inches of asphalt on the easement.

Final plat approval was also given for the Greentree planned development along County Farm Road.

Steve Smith appeared before the board representing the development. He said construction is expected to begin in the spring.

Plans call for a 3-story apartment building, which will have 58 units. The second phase of development includes 48 duplexes.

City planner Jeff Noffsinger said the city will negotiate a 40 foot right of way for the lane with adjacent property owner Betty Morgan as building permits are issued.

The board passed resolution 2002-01-01 changing the names of two streets: Hendricks Street in the Charles W. Graves addition will be Wilson Street and The Court in Morton Place addition will be Court Street.

Planning commissioners are Joe Thallemer, president; Jeff Grose, vice president; Jim Gast Dewey Lawshe, Lacy Francis and Alan Clingan.
