City To Discuss Seasonal Sewage Billing

Posted
Warsaw City Council will discuss seasonal sewage bills at its meeting tonight.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at city hall.

The Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety previously discussed the issue at its Sept. 21 meeting.

Resident Richard Weirick informed board member Charlie Smith and Mayor Ernie Wiggins that he is wanting to not be charged for sewage services during winter months. Weirick said he submitted a letter to the Warsaw sewage plant office requesting his sewage bill be waived when he lives in another state in the winter.

Wiggins said there currently is no ordinance that allows sewage fees to be waived for people who live in other states in the winter. Wiggins said the council would have the authority to amend the ordinance.

Wastewater treatment utility manager David Henderson said he has received other calls from Warsaw residents who live in other states in the winter who have requested to have their sewer fees waived during the winter months.

Henderson said the sewage fees also include debt service payments and infrastructure and maintenance fees.
