The Warsaw Board of Works approved the cleanup and boarding of a city home deemed unsafe, and the demolition of a second unsafe home.
The board approved $336 to clean, exterminate and board up a home at 1201 N. Park Avenue. The vacant home is owned by Carol Andrews.
"This is a house that has given the city trouble for the past 12 years. The weeds and grass are too high. And the house is completely infested with cockroaches and fleas," said Pam Kennedy, Warsaw building inspector. "The refrigerator is also full of rotting food."
The board also approved $3,960 to demolish a house at 508 Hitzer St. The property is owned by Sharon McNeese and Kimberly Gross. The board approved placing a lien on the property.
"The house has been vacant since 1995, and the board has previously approved the demolition," Kennedy said. "The property is also for sale, so by placing a lien on it, we should be able to recover the money once it is sold."
In other business, the board approved a $7,500 performance bond to Tom Buskirk on a home at 526 E. Center St.
"The house was supposed to be demolished by Sept. 15, but it was not, and Mr. Buskirk still wants his bond back," Kennedy said. "However, the house is currently being demolished and should be completed by this Sunday."
