The Warsaw Board of Works approved the purchase of a garbage truck and street sweeper Friday after reviewing several quotes.
The 2004 Leach 2RII garbage truck on a Chevrolet chassis will come from Erick's Chevrolet at a cost of $93,042.66. Other quotes were provided by Erick's (for a 2004 Pack-Mor) at $94,452.66 and Deed's Equipment for a 2004 Leach 2RII for $95,940.
The leased street sweeper will cost $115,780. Northern Equipment submitted two bids, which were not according to specifications.
A number of bids were opened for supplies - limestone, gravel, asphalt and the like - and taken under consideration. They will be awarded at the next Board of Works meeting.
The board approved an agreement with Frederick Heady, who was injured during employment as a Warsaw police officer. In 2004, Heady will receive $24,746 the same amount as his income on the date of his accident, and will receive medical, prescription and life insurance coverage.
The board approved a number of contracts for 2004. All are available for review in the clerk's office. They are:
An agreement for legal services with Valentine, Miner and Lemon, reflecting no changes. Most services are for $135 per hour; bond issue and litigation services will be billed at $195 per hour.
An occupational health services agreement with MedStat with several increases in rates and decreases in others.
With the Animal Welfare League in the amount of $14,520 per year ($1,210 per month), an unchanged amount.
With Kosciusko Development Inc. for $1,500 an unchanged amount.
With Warsaw Housing Authority for $25,000, up from $20,400.
With Wayne Township for parks and recreation provided to township residents, in the amount of $61,000, up from $51,000; and a fire protection agreement in the amount of $120,000, an unchanged amount.
With Kosciusko Area Bus Service for $18,500, an unchanged amount.
With the City-County Athletic Complex for $34,000, up from $12,000. The city also may provide labor and maintenance services as needed.
With Cintas Uniforms to provide uniforms, towels and mats to the police and parks departments at various rates.
With Komputrol Software Systems for software protection in the amount of $450, an unchanged amount.
With SpectraPrint for $0 to produce the parks' 2004 activities guide. The publishing company provides advertising for the booklet.
A lease at 600 E. Winona Ave., Suite 8, which serves as the Victim Service Center, for $6,000.

Approved $2,671 for Penguin Point catering service to provide the city's Christmas dinner.
Approved a contract with GBC Media (WRSW) for the Community Christmas radio advertisements as requested by the parks department.
Approved the purchase of four new police vehicles at a cost of $83,952 through Rice Ford.
Approved Brian Drobitsch as a permanent firefighter as the completion of his probationary period ends Dec. 8.
Board of works members are Mayor Ernie Wiggins and councilmen Jerry Patterson and Charlie Smith. Patterson and Smith agreed to serve on the BOW next year.
