City To Advertise Lease For Gatke Property

Posted

The Warsaw Redevelopment Commission held a short meeting Monday, hearing from city planner Jeff Noffsinger that bid specifications to offer the Gatke property for lease will soon be advertised.

The city is leasing the property to hold any developer harmless if further toxins are found. Currently the area has a clean bill of health as certified by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

McKinley Street, which now extends to Winona Avenue, should be open to traffic this week. Drivers are restricted to right-hand turns off McKinley onto Winona Avenue and off Winona Avenue onto McKinley.

Noffsinger said he had just returned from Portland, Ore., where a national brownsfield conference was held. He said Portland and other Oregon municipalities have done a great deal to make designated brownfield areas useable.

The next Redevelopment Commission meeting was set for Dec. 1 at noon.

Commission members are Tammy Rockey, Charles Smith, Jerome Kralis and John Elliott. Neal Carlson was absent.
