Warsaw City Council reviewed Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory and Warsaw Parks Department reports for 2014 on Monday. The territory responded to 1,391 calls in 2014 and was awarded for five CPR saves due to quick response and continued training. Last year the dirt work was completed on the site for the south fire station, a project planned to help better service the southern part of the fire territory. The parks department accomplished several projects in 2014, including installing tables and benches on the new concrete at McKinley Park, and park employees installing sound panels to improve the acoustics of the firemen’s building. Other completed projects included resurfacing and new striping of two full-court four-goal playing surfaces at the Boggs Basketball Courts. Projects also included renovation of the Nye Youth Cabin, including the interior of the cabin, which was remodeled to accommodate an ADA-compliant restrooms and kitchen. The floor cracks were leveled and coating was laid on the concrete floor. Repairs were made to the Central Park Foundation area wall. The broken concrete textured retaining wall was repaired and resurfaced, continuing the yearly maintenance of the plaza area. Equipment purchases included a new riding mower, new four-wheel drive pickup truck with snow plow and a snow blower. Other equipment purchases included a new copier for the park office used by all park staff and new tables and chairs at the Center Lake Pavilion, replacing some of the older dilapidated ones. Downtown responsibilities included park employees planting and maintaining 80 flower beds and trees to celebrate the displaying of the Seward Johnson statues in the downtown.
