The city of Warsaw and Kosciusko County Recycling Depot will collaborate for a city-wide spring clean up week. The week is April 20 to 26. Diane Quance, city councilwoman, made a presentation during Monday night’s Warsaw City Council meeting on the spring clean up week that she and councilwoman Cindy Dobbins organized. “The emphasis is to work together as a community. I strongly feel our youth are a predictor of our future and we can help them become more responsible recyclers and take pride in where they live,” Quance said. Monica Boyer, Warsaw resident, presented the suggestion for a spring clean up day during the council’s March 18 meeting. Community Cleanup Week is in conjunction with Environmental Action Week that the KC Recycling Depot is sponsoring. On April 20 there will be an open house at KC Recycling Depot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Any resident can bring in two tires for free for recycling. There also will be paper shredding that is free that day. There will be electronics recycling April 20 to 26 at a discounted rate. On April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be blue jeans recycling where people can drop off their jeans to be recycled at KC Recycling Depot. There will be door prizes and snacks. The city will sponsor a Kids Clean Up Day April 23 when all children are encouraged to clean up their neighborhoods. Warsaw Community High School special needs classes will visit downtown Warsaw April 23 for a clean up date to pick up trash and sweep downtown streets. Community and scouting groups are encouraged to organize clean up days during that week. People can contact Quance at dquance 54@kcaccess.com for assistance in setting up a clean up time and to get vests, gloves and trash bags. The KC Recycling Depot plans to mail a newsletter in next week’s edition of the Times-Union that will provide safety tips for clean-up efforts. Neighborhoods are encouraged to sponsor their own clean up days April 20 to 26 and select a driver in their neighborhood to bring items to recycle to the KC Recycling Depot. Warsaw Street Department will run a two-for-one special where residents can put two larger items such as sofas, mattresses or chairs out at the curb to be picked up on their trash week April 20 to 26. A Dial A Dumpster program will begin April 20 to 26 for neighborhoods and people can call the Warsaw Street Department at 574-372-9561 to participate.
