City OKs 4-Way Stop At CR 175E, 75N

Warsaw City Council Monday approved a four-way stop ordinance for the intersection of CRs 175E and 75N.

The intersection is east of Patterson Road.

Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission previously approved submitting the request to the council. The commission first discussed the four-way stop request, submitted by the Kosciusko County Highway Department, at its Oct. 4 meeting.Michiana Area Council of Governments conducted a traffic count for the intersection to determine traffic volume. The organization conducted the traffic counts at the intersection Oct. 29 through Nov. 4 from noon to 11 p.m. each day.

Shuter said the study found a four-way stop is warranted at the intersection due to heavy traffic volume.

The four-way stop will alleviate sight-distance issues and road-alignment problems at the intersection, according to Warsaw Police Department Lt. Kip Shuter.

Mayor Ernie Wiggins said the ordinance needs to be advertised in the newspaper. The stop sign will not be allowed to be put up until after 30 days after being advertised.

The county commissioners also will need to approve the ordinance.

The city reviewed a letter from Warsaw resident Scott Reinholt, who has lived on CR 75N for the past 10 years, stating he strongly agrees a four-way stop would be effective at the intersection.

The city also approved a public-way vacation located east of lot 11 of Yarnell Point in Winona Lake.

City Planner Jeremy Skinner said the public way would not be used to provide access to surrounding property owners other than property owners N. Reed and Kathleen K. Silliman and other property owners who have already vacated their portion of the public way.

The council also:

n Approved a January activity report for the Warsaw Fire Department with 135 responses.

n Approved a conflict of interest statement between the city and councilman George Clemens, who is chairman and co-owner of Rabb-Kinetico Water Systems Inc.

n Approved a request for a transfer ordinance for the building and planning department to purchase a new computer server.
