City Council Passes Salary Ordinance On Second Reading

Posted

The 2001 Salary Ordinance was passed on second reading Wednesday afternoon at Warsaw City Council's budget meeting.

Council member Joe Thallemer said while he has nothing against an adjustment of the salary for the position of Parks Department activities director, he believes a 12.6 percent raise for Andy McCleary is too much in one year.

Council member Paul Siebenmorgen said he has no problem making the adjustment either and the 12.6 percent raise is a salary adjustment with a 3 percent raise.

Council member Bill Rhoades supported the raise. He said he didn't see any reason to compare McCleary's position to positions in other cities like Huntington and Syracuse.

The ordinance was passed with a vote of four to two, with opposition from Joe Thallemer and Trish Brown.

The council also discussed each department's budget again. Aug. 31 is the last day for pre-adoption publication of the budget and Sept. 20 is the last day for final adoption.

The council discussed meeting Aug. 21 with an alternative date of Aug. 23 for the pre-adoption public hearing and Sept. 21 for the final adoption, but those dates are not definite.

The final dates will be advertised when they are decided.
