Warsaw City Council met for a special meeting Monday night and approved reductions to the city's 2008 budget.
Mayor Ernie Wiggins said department heads were asked by the city to make cuts to their 2008 budgets.
The Department of Local Government Finance gave notice to the city to reduce its operating balance due to funds not spent and to remain under the the maximum tax levy.Reductions included a $232,353 cut to the general fund, $25,499 cut for debt service, $1,950 cut for fire pension and a $3,958 to the police pension fund.
There also was a $72,075 reduction to the cumulative fire fund and a $311 reduction to the aviation fund.
The cumulative capital development fund was reduced by $30,000 and the redevelopment general fund was reduced by $390.
The council also approved a resolution to reduce the 2008 cemetery budget for cemetery equipment by $5,000; an $8,000 total reduction for the parks department budget with a $5,000 reduction for park salaries and a $3,000 reduction for park unemployment.
The mayor general fund budget was reduced by $5,500, including $1,500 for office supplies, $1,000 for operating supplies and $3,000 for equipment.
The council also approved a $10,000 total reduction for the human resources general fund with a reduction of $2,500 for salaries, $4,500 for professional services and $3,000 for equipment.
The clerk's general fund was reduced by $12,000, including a $2,000 reduction for unemployment and $10,000 reduction for equipment. The fire general fund budget was reduced by $29,300 with a $20,000 reduction for salaries and $9,300 for professional services.
The street general fund was reduced by $130,000 with a $75,000 reduction for salaries, $32,000 reduction for debt service and a $23,000 reduction for other services and charges.
The building and planning department's fund was reduced by $53,000.
Reductions included a $50,000 reduction for professional services and a $3,000 reduction for dues.
The council also approved a resolution to allow the Warsaw Fire Department to apply for an Indiana State Fire Training Infrastructure Fund grant.
If approved, the grant will be used to purchase fire training props, according to WFD Chief Mike Rice.
