City Approves Wildman Business Group Revitalization Area Resolution

Posted
Warsaw City Council approved a resolution Monday night for Wildman Business Group to be designated as an economic revitalization area.

The city still needs to approve, at its June 18 meeting, a declaratory resolution and statement of benefits form for improvements to the existing facility at 800 S. Buffalo St., according to Jeremy Skinner, city planner.

The city Monday approved the existing property as an economic revitalization area.

In order for Wildman to receive a tax abatement, the property needs to be designated as an economic revitalization area.

Monday was a public hearing to comment on the designation.

Wildman will submit a statement of benefits form requesting a 10-year tax abatement.

Wildman is proposing to add new manufacturing equipment and building improvements.

Josh Wildman, Wildman Uniform, attended the meeting and said plans are to build an addition on the back of the existing facility on Buffalo Street and purchase manufacturing equipment.

“This will help with our growth and enable us to continue to grow in the future,” Wildman said.

Wildman said it will be more than a half a million dollar investment.

City Councilman Charlie Smith said he supported the economic revitalization area.

“This is an economic tool to keep businesses that we  have and this makes sense,” Smith said.

Councilwoman Diane Quance also supported the resolution.

“I think they have been great neighbors, and we have not had any complaints about their facility, and they have been innovative and introduced new product lines,” Quance said.

In other business, the city approved 10-year tax abatement compliance review form continuations for DePuy Orthopedics and Danco Anodizing.

The city also approved ordinances for airport-owned property to be annexed into the city at CRs 100E and 300N.

Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said Lynne Christiansen, Warsaw city clerk, was awarded an Indiana Accredited Municipal Clerk designation by the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks.

Skinner said he will have an ordinance at the next council meeting for redistricting of council districts.

Skinner said Staci Young, parks recreation director, will distribute information on the city’s bike and pedestrian plan at this weekend’s Northern Indiana Lakes Festival in Warsaw.

Skinner provided the new city hall update on Buffalo Street and said the facility is moving along.

Council President Elaine Call said it would be helpful to have a spread sheet on renovations costs, and what funds paid for the expenses.
